Also, cartoonist Pauline Comanor will present patients with her cuddly and friendly Chunky Monkey doll based on her cartoon character. Despite some early misgivings that there wouldn't be much of a market for banana ice cream, soon after its introduction in 1988, Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey flavor zoomed into the top five most popular Ben & Jerry's flavors and developed a regular following that it has maintained to this day.
Making his debut in 1973, Comanor's Chunky Monkey cartoon character has been a long-standing hit with kids and adults. She has popularized him around the world in appearances she has made from New England to New Zealand performing in shopping malls under her billing of "The World's Fastest Cartoonist" and creator of the Chunky Monkey character. The Chunky Monkey character has also been the subject of a book Comanor published in 1983 and of murals she has created for various pediatric hospitals and children's charities.
