Finite Carbon Announces Landmark Issuance of High-Quality Carbon Credits Under ACR IFM v2.1

Credits issued over 200,000 acres in Maine meet the carbon market’s latest rigorous standards for quality and integrity

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Finite Carbon (“Finite”), a leading developer of carbon projects, announces the issuance of forest carbon credits under the American Carbon Registry’s Improved Forest Management (IFM) v2.1 methodology for its 212,806-acre Northeast Carry Woodlands project in Maine. As one of the first and largest projects to achieve registration under ACR's newest IFM methodology, all Northeast Carry credits bear the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label, the voluntary carbon market's designation for high-quality carbon credits.

The latest ACR IFM v2.1 methodology refines how carbon project baselines are evaluated and monitored. This improves project transparency and accountability, increasing confidence in nature-based climate solutions. By entering the voluntary carbon market, the Northeast Carry Woodlands project will provide long-term, quantifiable outcomes for carbon storage, responsible forest stewardship, and local economic stability.

"I'm proud of our team for this accomplishment," said David Stevenson, President, Finite Carbon. "This project underscores our dedication to providing high-integrity forest carbon credits. Using ACR’s robust IFM v2.1 methodology ensures measurable climate impact and supports healthy forest management across North America."

The Northeast Carry Woodlands project is part of a larger ownership of over 1 million acres in Maine’s expansive northern forest, under the care of the Buck family. Their vision of sustainable forest stewardship will allow this land to endure for future generations while supporting the local economy of one of the largest private forest landscapes in the eastern United States. This biodiverse landscape features a mix of northern hardwood and softwood forests, rivers, lakes, and wetlands, including Moosehead Lake, the Penobscot River, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

“Since this project’s inception, our goals have remained consistent in every step necessary to achieve unquestionable quality. This project demonstrates our commitment to responsible, sustainable forest stewardship and delivers the highest integrity carbon solutions to the market,” said Ben Benoit, manager of the Buck Family’s timber lands.

The Northeast Carry Woodlands project is certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), an independent certification program for sustainable forest management. The project exceeds the Maine Forest Service Best Management Practices for water quality by maintaining enhanced forest cover along riparian zones, protecting waterways, reducing soil erosion, and mitigating flooding.
