The nine startups, which hope to tackle a range of problems connected to senior living, including care delivery, health monitoring, mental health treatment, fitness instruction, and social connection, were selected for the four-week, cohort-based program from a field of 90 applicants.
“We’re thrilled to help such a strong array of startups become ‘rural ready’ to pilot, validate, and scale solutions in rural settings through our AscendRural Senior Care Innovation Accelerator,” said Melissa Kjolsing, Managing Director, AscendRural. “The selection process was exciting, because we saw just how much talent and ingenuity is out there waiting to be tapped. Our rural communities deserve innovative solutions, especially our rural seniors who face unique challenges around access and affordability, contributing to higher rates of chronic illness, disability, isolation, and premature mortality. The businesses in our inaugural cohort have the potential to transform the lives of rural seniors for the better, and we can’t wait to introduce them to our community partners.”
Cohort members will receive:
- Four weeks of curriculum designed to improve rural readiness
- Mentorship from nationally recognized senior care and aging innovation experts
- Market insights and community engagement support to strengthen product–market fit
- Opportunities to pilot solutions directly in rural communities
- An opportunity to showcase their innovation to community partners actively seeking pilot-ready solutions
- If selected by community partners, teams can earn pilot contracts worth up to a maximum of $150,000 (no minimum guaranteed)
The cohort includes:
CarePredict, a platform that empowers senior living operators with the data and tools they need to enhance resident well-being, support staff efficiency, and deliver proactive, personalized care. Their platform is designed to detect meaningful patterns in the daily lives of older adults, patterns that can signal changes in health and enable early intervention.
care.coach, a company on a mission to empower individuals and caregivers with technology and compassion. The full care.coach platform ingests insurer member and claims data and produces improved member experience, improved quality measures, and reduced cost of care.
Medex Finance, an AI-powered medical coder built for high-stakes environments. From Interventional Radiology to Rural Health, Medex delivers specialty-tuned automation that eliminates backlogs and optimizes revenue cycle.
Plated Foodservice, whose patent-pending heating system, designed to fit in virtually any space to expand foodservice options beyond the usual central kitchen, is the easiest way to heat meals from frozen and hold them at the perfect temperature until serving time.
Pontosense, which uses privacy-first sensing and AI to help families and care teams detect risk, monitor wellness, and respond faster, all through a single, invisible sensor in the home.
Total Life, a teletherapy service tailored specifically to the needs of seniors who rely on Medicare. With a few simple steps, you can connect with an affordable therapist who will provide the guidance you need to improve your mental well-being.
Vivo, a strength-focused fitness program designed for older adults who want to stay independent, active, and capable. Grounded in science and led by certified trainers, Vivo offers live, small-group personal training classes that are engaging, effective, and fun – all at a fraction of the cost of a private trainer.
Xandar Kardian uses UWB radar to disrupt how human health and building health are monitored, analyzed and improved including continuous vital signs monitoring to precise occupancy data and people counting.
Zemplee With Zemplee’s proprietary AI remote monitoring systems, not only can your caregivers track vital signs in real-time – you’ll have a system that alerts your team to intervene early.
The accelerator concludes with the option for companies who have demonstrated defined metrics to participate in AscendRural's pilot matching program, which provides companies with community partnerships for real-world pilots, market validation in rural America, and visibility with AscendRural's ecosystem partners. An initial match-making opportunity will take place in mid-April with several senior-serving organizations hailing from rural communities across the region. Companies that are selected will begin piloting as early as this summer.
