Tailwind Capital Exits Colony Hardware

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tailwind Capital (“Tailwind”), a growth-oriented private equity firm investing in Industrial Solutions and Technical Services, today announced its exit from Colony Hardware (“Colony” or the “Company”), a direct-to-jobsite distributor of construction materials and jobsite supplies servicing specialty and general contractors. Tailwind initially invested in Colony in 2015 and following a majority recapitalization to Audax Private Equity (“Audax”) in 2018, remained a minority investor through the Company’s next phase of growth. From the time of its initial investment in 2015, Tailwind supported 25 add-on acquisitions and the company’s expansion from 10 branches across seven states to more than 60 branches in 19 states. With Colony’s recent sale to White Cap, a leading distributor of specialty construction supplies and safety products for professional contractors, Tailwind has now fully realized its investment in Colony Hardware. The terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

Headquartered in Orange, Connecticut, Colony employs more than 1,100 people and operates across the Central and Eastern U.S., as well as Texas. The Company is a specialty distributor of safety equipment, power tools, and other jobsite essentials, serving contractors across commercial and public infrastructure markets through a route-based, hub-and-spoke model that delivers products directly to jobsites, with a strong focus on service and responsiveness.

“Colony Hardware has long been a highly respected partner to their contractor customers, known for its exceptional customer service,” said Andrew Mayer, Partner at Tailwind Capital. “We are proud to have supported the Company as both a majority owner and later as a minority investor through such an important period of growth and operational advancement. Colony is an outstanding business with a strong team, and we are confident it is well-positioned for continued success in its next chapter with White Cap.”

Jefferies & Co. and Lincoln International served as financial advisors to Colony.
