AM Best Assigns Performance Assessment to Across America Insurance Services, Inc.

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AM Best has assigned a Performance Assessment (assessment) of PA-3 (Strong) to Across America Insurance Services, Inc. (AAIS) (Riverside, CA). The outlook assigned to the assessment is stable.

The assessment reflects AAIS’ strong underwriting capabilities, strong governance and internal controls, strong financial condition, strong organizational talent and strong depth and breadth of relationships.

AAIS is a managing general agent that operates as a unique wholesale insurance provider, serving the specific needs of the commercial trucking industry in select parts of the United States. The company’s underwriting capabilities are assessed as strong, supported by a demonstrated track record of profitable performance and favorable loss experience during a period of accelerated growth. Management has shown the ability to execute effectively within a nimble operating structure while scaling the business.

AM Best views AAIS’ governance and internal controls as strong. The company benefits from alignment of interests through its affiliated carrier partner and in-house claims third-party administrator, which provides inherent operational synergies. Policies and procedures are considered appropriate for the size and scope of the organization; however, key person risk is viewed as a constraining factor, as the chief executive officer maintains significant involvement in day-to-day operations. While these factors remain a consideration, the company has taken steps to broaden its governance framework through expanded leadership roles and formalized operational processes, which provide additional support for organizational continuity.

AM Best’s assessment of AAIS’ financial condition is strong. The company has demonstrated a record of positive EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) and net income over the most recent five-year period, supported primarily by stable sources of revenue, including base commission income. Operating results have exhibited some volatility in select metrics, driven by fluctuations in operating expenses and interest income. Such volatility reflects, in part, the company’s growth-related investments and the evolving expense profile typical of expanding managing general agent platforms.

Organizational talent is assessed as strong for AAIS. The company is led by an adequately experienced executive management team, with key personnel possessing varying levels of industry experience. While certain members of the underwriting team have limited tenure within the organization and the industry, a clearly defined reporting structure and active CEO oversight provide support for underwriting execution. Senior underwriters provide ongoing oversight and development to support consistent underwriting practices.

AM Best considers the depth and breadth of AAIS’ business relationships to be strong. The company is supported by a panel of high-quality reinsurers and a limited number of program partners. However, relationship continuity is viewed as a constraining factor, as certain reinsurers and carrier partners have exited relationships with AAIS amid broader challenges in the commercial trucking market that have led to participant withdrawals.
