Wicked: For Good Delivers Magical Weekend at Marcus Theatres

Fans are obsessulated with the conclusion to the beloved musical, delivering the circuit’s largest opening ever for a Broadway adaptation and the second highest opening weekend so far in 2025

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Marcus Theatres®, the nation’s fourth largest theatre circuit and a division of Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced Wicked: For Good delivered the circuit’s largest ever opening for a Broadway adaptation and the second highest opening weekend in 2025. This also was Marcus Theatres’ highest performing pre-Thanksgiving weekend since the pandemic.

Moviegoers flocked to Marcus Theatres' Premium Large Format (PLF) screens, which represented more than a third of all weekend attendance. When looking at total national box office, private label and premium large format screens such as Marcus Theatres' UltraScreens DLX® and SuperScreens DLX® represented the largest percentage of all PLF screen box office sales for Wicked: For Good.

“From the big screens to the incredible sound and sense of community, there simply is no better place to immerse yourself in the dynamic storytelling of movies like Wicked: For Good than at the movie theatre,” said Greg Marcus, chief executive officer of Marcus Corporation. “With ticket sales of Wicked: For Good not showing signs of slowing, and several other highly anticipated family friendly films around the corner, like Zootopia 2 coming this Wednesday, the holidays are looking bright at Marcus Theatres.”

Fans adorned in their pink and green flew into Marcus Theatres and Movie Tavern locations across 17 states to see the soaring conclusion of the Wicked story on the big screen. Early signs pointed to a big opening, as Wicked: For Good presales at Marcus Theatres sold well ahead of Wicked last year.

Wicked: For Good moviegoers at Marcus Theatres enjoyed early access screenings, Wicked and Wicked: For Good double features, and in-theatre activations including themed decor, exclusive collectibles, immersive activities, as well as pink and green concessions. Fans across generations felt the full power of Elphaba, Glinda, and other Oz favorites at Marcus Theatres, while enjoying industry-leading amenities including the highest percentage of recliner seating and expansive PLF screens.

Wicked: For Good kicks off a lineup of appealing new releases that are expected to play well in Marcus Theatres’ markets, including Zootopia 2 (November 26), The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (December 19), and Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19).

Marcus Theatres invites families and friends to also enjoy a variety of seasonal favorites this holiday season, including Elf (December 5-11), Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (December 5-11), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (December 12-18), White Christmas (December 12-18), It’s a Wonderful Life (December 12-18), The Polar Express (December 12-18), and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (December 12-18).
