Fiber Broadband Association’s OpTIC Path™ Program Builds Momentum with National Award, Successful Rodeo, and Expanding Technician Pipeline

Recognition from Broadband Communities and strong program adoption underscore OpTIC Path’s growing impact on the broadband workforce

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) today announced continued momentum behind its OpTIC Path™ (Optical Telecom Installer Certification) program following a series of major milestones that demonstrates the program’s growing impact on fiber workforce development nationwide.

This week, OpTIC Path was honored with the 2025 Workforce Development Award from Broadband Communities at its annual Summit—an endorsement of the program’s leadership in solving the broadband industry’s urgent talent gap. The recognition comes at a time of rapid growth, increased adoption across 17 states, and heightened demand for trained fiber technicians as BEAD and other broadband funding programs accelerate deployment efforts.

“OpTIC Path has become a critical engine for workforce readiness across North America,” said Deborah Kish, Vice President of Research and Workforce Development at the Fiber Broadband Association. “This award and the enthusiasm we’re seeing from colleges, students, and employers show that momentum is building-and we’re just getting started.”

The momentum was also on display at Fiber Connect 2025 in Nashville, where FBA hosted the inaugural OpTIC Path Rodeo—a dynamic, hands-on competition that brought together fiber technicians and OpTIC Path graduates from across the country. Over two days, participants demonstrated their skills in fiber splicing, troubleshooting, and technical knowledge, culminating in a high-stakes final round. The Rodeo not only celebrated the real-world skills taught in the OpTIC Path curriculum but also showcased the precision and professionalism required to build today’s fiber networks.

OpTIC Path continues to scale nationally as both a training and career pathway solution. The program is now offered through a growing network of community colleges, workforce boards, and training providers, preparing students to install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain high-performance fiber networks. In 2025 alone, the program is on track to graduate 600 new fiber technicians and aims to reach 1,200 graduates annually over the next five years.

As the broadband industry pushes toward universal connectivity, FBA’s OpTIC Path program stands out as a scalable, inclusive, and practical workforce development solution-one that's already changing lives and shaping the future of fiber infrastructure.
