“I’ve long admired Gainbridge® for their commitment to investing in women’s sports, and I’m excited to join their team of ambassadors,” said Scurry. “My journey – from winning a World Cup to facing financial hardship after a career-ending injury – has taught me the importance of planning for the future and Gainbridge® provides the tools to do just that. I am thrilled to be teaming up with Gainbridge® to create more opportunities for the next generation of soccer players and to inspire more women to take control of their own financial future.”

Scurry, widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in U.S. history, competed in four World Cups and three Olympic Games. During the 1999 World Cup, she made the iconic penalty kick save that carried the U.S. to victory—a defining moment in women’s sports history. She was the first woman goalie and the first Black woman to be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. She was also part of the first professional soccer league for women in the U.S. in 2003.

From winning two Olympic gold medals and a World Cup to a traumatic brain injury that left her temporarily totally disabled and in financial hardship, Scurry has overcome physical, mental, and financial challenges. As a Gainbridge® ambassador, she will partner with the company to further its mission of driving financial success and investing in women’s sports. She will build her own future financial security by using part of her sponsorship compensation in an annual Gainbridge® annuity.

“With both a legendary sports career and a vision for impacting the future, Briana is a role model for fans across the U.S.,” said Group 1001 President and CEO Dan Towriss. “What Briana did in 1999 with the U.S. Women’s National Team changed the trajectory of soccer for the next generation of women. Her commitment to empowerment, excellence, and making a positive impact aligns with our mission at Gainbridge®.”

Scurry joins the Gainbridge® roster of women ambassador athletes who share the brand’s mission of investing in women’s sports and creating a positive impact in communities across the country. Other ambassadors include Indiana Fever guard and 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark, 39-time Grand Slam Champion Billie Jean King, and 72-time LPGA Tour winner Annika Sörenstam.
