FlightHub Survey Uncovers the Rise of Cosmetic and Wellness Tourism

The survey found that nearly half of respondents would, in fact, consider traveling elsewhere for a cosmetic procedure that’s more affordably priced than the United States.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FlightHub, a Momentum Ventures subsidiary and leading online travel agency that allows consumers to book cost-effective travel services, today released its new survey findings uncovering the correlation between travel and cosmetic-related wellness services. The study, conducted with 2,000 U.S. respondents, highlights the growing impact of cosmetic and wellness tourism on travel decisions.

Cost is the primary factor influencing cosmetic travel, with 85% of respondents acknowledging its importance.

The Influence of Cost & Social Factors

While the concept of traveling for medical procedures is not new, the rise of cosmetic tourism has introduced a new layer to travel planning. Nearly half of respondents (46%) revealed that they would consider traveling to another city or country for a cosmetic procedure if it were more affordable or specialized, while 48% remain hesitant. It appears cost is the primary factor influencing these decisions, with 85% acknowledging its importance and more than half stating it plays a very or extremely significant role. Additionally, 83% of respondents cited family and friends as key influences, while social media, celebrity endorsements, and emerging cosmetic trends continue to shape perceptions.

“Travel has long been associated with relaxation and self-care, but now we’re seeing a clear shift towards combining leisure trips with cosmetic and wellness procedures,” said Henri Chelhot, CEO of FlightHub. “Our findings show that cost, social influence, and wellness trends are shaping how people think about travel in the context of personal enhancement.”

The Growing Popularity of Wellness-Related Travel

Beyond cosmetic procedures, wellness travel continues to gain traction, with 66% of respondents expressing interest in visiting a destination for a traditional wellness or relaxation retreat. Over half (57%) believe the rise in wellness tourism is reshaping destinations, turning them into wellness-centric hubs, while 52% said they are now more likely to choose travel locations based on their health and self-care offerings, such as yoga retreats or holistic healing centers. The trend of combining cosmetic procedures with vacations is also gaining momentum, with 44% agreeing it is becoming increasingly popular among their family and friends.

How Much Are Travelers Willing to Spend?

Spending habits reflect this growing interest. On average, respondents are willing to spend $1,857 on a wellness retreat, with those considering such trips budgeting closer to $2,047. Similarly, the average amount respondents are willing to spend on a cosmetic procedure is $1,785, increasing to $2,518 among those committed to cosmetic travel. For travelers specifically seeking affordable cosmetic procedures abroad, the budget rises to $2,772, underscoring the financial considerations tied to these decisions.

As the lines between travel, self-care, and personal enhancement continue to blur, FlightHub remains committed to providing travelers with the resources and flexibility they need to make informed travel choices that align with their wellness goals.
