Swisslog Healthcare Sparks Community Change With Over 500 Volunteer Hours

VTO Program empowers employees to give back to local communities

BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Swisslog Healthcare, a global leader in pharmacy and transport automation solutions, reports significant employee participation in its Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program launched in March 2024. Swisslog Healthcare employees dedicated 584 hours to community service in 2024, showcasing the company's commitment to social responsibility and local engagement.

Taking employee feedback about the desire to engage in volunteer activities within their own local communities, the Swisslog Healthcare leadership team launched a formal volunteer program to help their employees take action. In its first year, 14% of Swisslog Healthcare employees utilized the program, contributing to various charitable causes throughout the year. While employees supported various organizations nationwide, Swisslog Healthcare's three key charities in Colorado received significant attention: Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, FRIENDS of Broomfield and A Precious Child. Many employees also volunteered at the Food Bank of the Rockies.

"This is a great start to the launch of our VTO Program, which serves as a testament to the generosity and goodwill of our team members," said Cory Kwarta, CEO of Swisslog Healthcare. "By providing dedicated time for volunteering, we're fostering a culture of giving back and strengthening our connection to the areas where we live and work."

Key highlights of the program's first year include:

  • 90 VTO days approved in 2024
  • 14% participation rate in first year
  • 584 total volunteer hours contributed

Melody Watkins, Executive Assistant to the CEO of Swisslog Healthcare, who helped develop the program, added, "Our colleagues asked for an opportunity to give back, and I am proud to say we delivered. The high level of participation has made a meaningful and positive impact across the areas where our employees work."

The VTO Program allows eligible employees to take one paid day off for volunteer activities, offering unique team-building opportunities by allowing whole or partial departments to coordinate group volunteer efforts. This collaborative approach enhances camaraderie within the organization and amplifies Swisslog Healthcare's capacity to impact the greater Broomfield area in addition to other communities across North America.

Research shows that companies investing in corporate responsibility see turnover reduced by 50%, employee productivity increased by up to 13%, and employee engagement increased by up to 7.5%. Swisslog Healthcare anticipates similar benefits as the program grows.

Building on the success of its first year, Swisslog Healthcare plans to continue encouraging employee participation and expanding volunteer efforts in the coming years. With an additional 21% of companies planning to implement VTO programs by the end of 2024, Swisslog Healthcare positions itself as an early adopter in this growing trend of corporate social responsibility.
