Transition Industries CEO Presents Pacifico Mexinol project at 4th Annual Foro Mar de Cortés Leadership Summit
LOS CABOS, Mexico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The 4th Annual Foro Mar de Cortés (Sea of Cortés Forum) “Cities with a Future” Summit wrapped up on November 15, 2024, after bringing together more than 400 thought leaders, experts, business executives, and philanthropists to discuss solutions to the environmental and social challenges facing the urban areas of Latin America and the Caribbean, including along the Gulf of California.
Rommel Gallo, CEO of Transition Industries LLC was invited to present about the positive environmental and biodiversity impacts of its Pacifico Mexinol project, a world-scale ultra-low carbon methanol production facility near Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico, which is expected to initiate operations in 2028. Pacifico Mexinol is expected to be the largest single ultra-low carbon chemicals facility in the world - producing approximately 350,000 MT of green methanol and 1.8 million MT of blue methanol annually.
While on the panel discussing projects that can transform communities and protect the environment, Mr. Gallo explained, “With an investment of more than US $2.5 billion, Pacifico Mexinol will be a global pioneer in the production of blue and green methanol at world scale, utilizing green hydrogen and carbon capture technologies that will help drive a sustainable transition to net-zero carbon emissions. Our green hydrogen production plant will be among the largest in the world.”
In addition to the Net Zero design, Pacifico Mexinol's purpose-driven water strategy is expected to be the world’s largest application of industrial water reuse from municipal effluent. Instead of using seawater or other natural sources of water, Pacifico Mexinol will use municipal wastewater, which will be treated, used and recycled back to the municipal wastewater facility. This closed loop water system will prevent more than 12 million tons per annum of wastewater being disposed of into the Bay of Ohuira, which feeds into the Gulf of California.
Transition Industries is also partnering with Sinaloa academics, NGOs and civil society organizations, sponsoring studies aimed at understanding ecosystem services and the social fabrics that connect communities in and around the project area.
Transition Industries is jointly developing the Pacifico Mexinol project with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
