Ohio Schools Get Powerful Boost for Literacy with Learning A-Z® Foundations A-Z®

Award-winning and Science of Reading-aligned solution approved as state supplemental foundational skills program.

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Learning A-Z, a Cambium Learning Group brand, announces that its award-winning literacy solution, Foundations A-Z®, has been approved by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce as a supplemental foundational skills curriculum. Foundations A-Z has been officially added to the High-Quality Instructional Materials in English Language Arts (HQIM ELA) PreK-Grade 5 Core Curriculum and Instructional Materials Approved List.

Recognizing the limitations of a “one-size-fits-all” approach, the Foundations A-Z solution embraces the latest research-based best practices to help teachers — regardless of their skill level and experience — develop foundational reading skills in K-5 students.

Aligning with ongoing Science of Reading research, the Foundations A-Z explicit lesson plans and digitally assignable student activities follow a scope and sequence to ensure students receive explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction. Daily lesson plans adhere to a gradual release model with built-in digital and printable resources for whole-class and small-group instruction, as well as independent student practice.

In addition to simplifying instruction for the teacher, the Foundations A-Z space-themed digital student portal drives active, multimodal learning through fun and engaging assignments and activities accessible via any wifi-enabled device.

“We designed Foundations A-Z from the ground up to be a high-quality instructional program that aligns with the Science of Reading,” said Aaron Ingold, interim president of Learning A-Z. “The Ohio Department of Education & Workforce’s approval of our program’s use as a supplemental foundational skills solution gives the state’s teachers additional resources to deliver research-based reading instruction and ensure all students have an opportunity to become successful readers.”
