IFALPA Welcomes Gordon Margison as New Technical Director

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Executive Board of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) is pleased to announce that Gordon Margison has accepted the role of Technical Director for the Federation. Beginning immediately, Gordon will lead the activities of the Technical Team from IFALPA’s Headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

Margison is an international aviation safety professional with perspective across multiple industry organizations including airline operators, aviation regulators, and pilot associations. He holds a Masters in Transport Management from the University of Sydney.

A strong believer in the profound potential of positive safety culture to improve aviation safety and the piloting profession, he embraces these principles in all his endeavors. Gordon’s leadership in IFALPA’s technical work has contributed to successes in advocating for strong international standards and recommend practices as well as industry guidance.

In the area of training, Gordon has been instrumental in the development of direct safety outreach courses on Fatigue Management, Positive Safety Culture, and Runway Safety Team best practices, in conjunction with expert volunteers. He has overseen the implementation of these courses across all IFALPA regions.

Gordon provides a strong strategic vision for IFALPA’s technical and safety initiatives. He has been a leader in structural improvements at IFALPA and has successfully advocated for the adoption of these changes over every level of governance.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gordon served as a supporter for the Global Pilot Community. His role as a coordinator of pilot experts in aviation medicine, peer support, and fatigue management proved to be pivotal in providing pilot advice to ICAO and governments for best practices to maintain safety and pilot wellbeing during the crisis.
