Arlington County Sheriff’s Office to Deploy GUARDIAN RFID

MAPLE GROVE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GUARDIAN RFID, the global leader in officer experience platforms (OXPs) and inmate tracking systems, today announces that the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (Arlington, Virginia) has signed a five-year agreement to deploy GUARDIAN RFID inmate tracking technology to optimize the delivery of services to inmates, streamline accountability and transparency, and maximize the agency’s compliance and defensibility objectives.

Operated by the Sheriff’s Office, the Arlington County Detention Facility (ACDF) has an average daily population of 300 inmates and is renowned for being one of the most technically-advanced direct supervision jails in the country. Corrections officials from around the world routinely visit ACDF as it is the first urban high-rise jail run in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office has made a concerted effort to modernize its technology to create a safer, more secure environment for inmates and staff. M.C. Dean, an electrical engineering and systems integration firm, is the electronic security services maintenance prime contractor. The company facilitated the vendor selection process for the county and supported them through the decision-making process. All ACDF floor deputies and supervisors will be deploying SPARTAN 3, the ultra-rugged Android from GUARDIAN RFID running Mobile Command software. The ACDF is also deploying hardened RFID tags strategically located throughout the facility to automate a wide range of data collection and reporting, including security checks and cell checks, headcounts, meal and recreation offerings, and a wide range of other inmate activity logging at the point of responsibility.

“My responsibility as sheriff is to those detained in our facilities, but also to our deputies and the community at large,” said Arlington County Sheriff Jose Quiroz. “Real-time visibility and data on inmate and deputy activities allows us to uphold that responsibility and quickly mitigate any safety or security risks, for the benefit of all.”

ACDF will also be using Operational Intelligence, the business intelligence layer of GUARDIAN RFID, to measure what they manage: security round performance at staggered intervals, anomalous patterns of inmate behavior, and more. Operational Intelligence will help ACDF proactively pinpoint areas of operational strength and improvement in real time.

The deployment of GUARDIAN RFID integrates with ACDF’s New World Systems jail management system from Tyler Technologies and facility-wide Wi-Fi.
