Ohio Department of Education Lists Amplify as Approved Assessment Program and Tutoring Offering for 2022-2023 School Year

Amplify earns Tier 1 rating and will provide K-3 diagnostics and K-6 tutoring beginning this year

BROOKLYN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Amplify, a publisher of next-generation curriculum and assessment programs, has been listed by the Ohio Department of Education as an approved assessment and tutoring provider for the 2022-2023 school year. As part of Future Forward Ohio, the state’s strategic initiative to help students recover from the impact of COVID-19, Amplify will provide mCLASS with DIBELS 8th Edition as a K-3 Diagnostic Screener and Tier 1 Dyslexia Screening in combination with Amplify Tutoring, Amplify’s suite of high-impact tutoring services.

mCLASS with DIBELS 8th Edition offers a set of brief, standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy based in the Science of Reading and designed to predict the literacy growth of children from kindergarten through sixth grade. The assessment represents a unique approach to literacy assessment by providing benchmark assessment materials for conducting universal screening three times a year. Authored by the University of Oregon Center on Teaching and Learning, DIBELS 8th Edition includes efficient one-minute measures, a built-in dyslexia screener, lessons, and robust reports for teachers and administrators. The assessment will be administered by Ohio districts and schools for grades K-3 beginning this year.

“Providing an effective, educator-driven assessment to Ohio students and teachers is an honor for Amplify,” said Krista Curran, senior vice president and general manager of assessment and intervention at Amplify. “Investing in foundational literacy is now more essential than ever as schools work to provide the important interventions needed, such as tutoring services, to address instructional loss and support students in becoming confident readers.”

Ohio schools will also have access to Amplify’s tutoring offerings to close foundational literacy skills gaps for K–6 students through research-based, proven high-impact tutoring. Amplify will offer Ohio schools a full service option that provides school districts with virtual tutoring, including highly trained Amplify tutors and high-quality instructional materials. Schools will also have the option to hire local tutors who will get trained in and use Amplify materials and be supported by Amplify’s team of tutoring experts.

The Amplify Tutoring solution is grounded in both mCLASS® and mCLASS Intervention®. Amplify tutors provide live, small group, virtual tutoring sessions three times per week for 30-minute sessions. Amplify provides tutoring, training, high-quality instructional materials with assessments, and program management.

“Amplify Tutoring is a proven intervention that helps students make outsized growth in reading compared to similarly at-risk peers who are not in tutoring,” said Alanna Phelan, vice president, tutoring at Amplify. “Powered by mCLASS data, Amplify Tutoring will provide supplemental, tailored instruction to Ohio students, offering the intervention necessary to accelerate literacy learning using a proven approach.”
