Medchart CEO James Bateman Recognized as a DirectTrust™ Interoperability Hero

Company championing the consumer-mediated exchange model to drive interoperability advancements

TORONTO & DALLAS--()--Medchart is pleased to share that its CEO, James Bateman, earned recognition as a DirectTrust™ Interoperability Hero. Bateman earned this honor for leading the company’s efforts in championing the consumer-mediated exchange model to transform the interoperability process into one that’s more efficient, manageable and cost-effective.

As a member of DirectTrust, Medchart is part of a network that provides a reliable means for ensuring safe and secure transport of health information between providers. For Medchart, this network is further expanded to include businesses beyond care and is the easiest way for patients to connect their data to health tech apps and services, law firms, insurance companies and pharmacies.

With tens of thousands of trusted data connections and a simple-to-use API set, Medchart’s platform enables any business to digitally retrieve patient-authorized health data quickly and securely. The company is connected to more than 65,000 health organizations across North America, reaching more than 120 million patients.

“Being recognized by an esteemed group of colleagues such as DirectTrust is a testament to the great work by the Medchart team to power secure data exchange and interoperability between patients, data custodians and data requestors,” said Bateman. “Using the consumer-mediated exchange approach, Medchart enables interoperability between the Exchange models. This process is built on the foundation of simplified patient consent so people can manage their personal data and control how organizations use that data.”

“We’re delighted to acknowledge Medchart as an Interoperability Hero,” said Scott Stuewe, president and CEO of DirectTrust. “There’s power in knowing the stories driving advancements in interoperability. We’re thrilled to bring attention to the use cases and successes of the efforts of those meeting the criteria of this.”

“By incorporating a consumer-mediated exchange platform and processes that exceed current requirements, organizations won’t be caught flat-footed once an inevitable regulatory update is enacted — which will likely save considerable time, effort and expenditures,” added Bateman.

The Interoperability Hero Initiative was established to recognize organizations, teams and individuals advancing interoperability across the healthcare ecosystem. Each quarter, DirectTrust selects candidates based on a variety of categories, including collaboration with others, identity-proofing, organizational efficiencies, and using DirectTrust with other standards and networks (e.g., FHIR, Query).
