Azul Expands Its Executive Leadership Team, Adding Ian Whiting as Chief Revenue Officer and Martin Van Ryswyk as Chief Product Officer

Insight and experience of new executives helps accelerate Azul’s position as the Java platform leader for the modern cloud enterprise

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Azul, provider of the Java platform for the modern cloud enterprise, and the only company 100% focused on Java, today announced that it has expanded its leadership team with the additions of two accomplished executives, Ian Whiting as Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) and Martin Van Ryswyk as Chief Product Officer (CPO), both reporting to Scott Sellers, Azul’s co-founder, president and CEO.

“Azul is in fast-growth mode, and we’ve set very ambitious goals in helping enterprises unlock the full potential of their Java environments,” said Sellers. “Ian and Martin will be instrumental in helping us achieve those goals. Ian brings a wealth of expertise in building best-in-class sales teams and go to market strategies. Martin has a tremendous track record of delivering enterprise-grade products across a variety of market segments and growing open-source projects and communities with significant market traction and billions of end users.”

Ian Whiting, Azul’s new CRO, brings immense experience leading companies through rapid revenue growth and successful outcomes. Whiting comes to Azul from Silver Peak Systems (acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise), where he ran global field operations, and prior ran global sales at Ruckus Wireless (acquired by Brocade), Fusion-IO (acquired by SanDisk) and Riverbed. Ian also led worldwide sales and marketing at Brocade, and over his 11 years there helped grow the business to over $2.3b in revenue.

“The enterprise Java space is a huge market and rich with opportunity,” said Whiting. “Azul is highly regarded in the Java community and has an impressive set of Global 2000 customers. I look forward to helping Azul continue its rapid growth and expand our presence worldwide.”

Martin Van Ryswyk brings more than 30 years of experience leading product and engineering teams to bring innovative enterprise-grade products to market across a variety of markets. He joins Azul as CPO from Planet Labs, where he introduced self-service satellite tasking via a SaaS platform. Prior to Planet, Van Ryswyk was executive vice president of product management and engineering at DataStax, the company behind Apache Cassandra, where his teams delivered pioneering big data products to thousands of enterprise customers worldwide and helped steer the company through rapid growth.

“The technology underpinning Java is both sophisticated and complex,” said Van Ryswyk. “Azul’s Java engineers are some of the most dedicated and experienced in the world, and the opportunity to continue to deliver innovative Java products and solutions for the enterprise is tremendous. I’m very excited to join such a committed, smart and passionate team.”

Over the course of this year, Azul has added new executives in the roles of CFO/COO and CMO, expanded its product portfolio and introduced new pricing, and announced commercial support for Eclipse Temurin, an OpenJDK distribution.
