BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Taubman Realty Group (“Taubman”) today announced that its corporate office and the 17 U.S. shopping centers it owns and operates have earned the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) WELL Health-Safety Rating. The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating awarded to companies that focus on exceptional operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans that address the global COVID-19 pandemic. The WELL Health-Safety Rating recognizes Taubman for prioritizing health and safety in its business operations, and the rating signals to the community, employees and customers that the company’s shopping centers follow the highest health and safety standards.
“We take pride in our ongoing commitment to upholding or exceeding industry-leading health and safety standards,” said Taubman’s Director of Facilities, Energy and Sustainability Steve Moore. “Recognition from the International WELL Building Institute and the WELL Health-Safety Rating acknowledges our care and concern for our people, our customers and for the communities in which we operate.”
Throughout the pandemic, Taubman shopping centers have implemented enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures to reduce respiratory particle exposure. Prior to COVID-19, the company regularly conducted ventilation assessments and mold and moisture management, among many other actions, to ensure the health and safety of employees and customers prior to COVID-19. Further, Taubman has for decades focused on emergency preparedness planning, business continuity strategies and expanding emergency resources to ensure resilience if faced with a crisis. The company also has a sharp focus on the total well-being of each employee, which can be seen in its comprehensive benefits package, wellness programs and vacation policy.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating provides a centralized source and governing body to validate efforts made by owners and operators. It leverages insights drawn from the IWBI Task Force on COVID-19, in addition to guidance on the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), global disease control and prevention centers and emergency management agencies, as well as recognized standard-making associations such as ASTM International and ASHRAE, and leading academic and research institutions, as well as core principles already established by IWBI’s WELL Building Standard, the premier framework for advancing health in buildings and spaces of all kinds. Taubman shopping centers were awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating following the successful completion of third-party documentation review by GBCI to confirm it has met the feature specific intents and requirements.
