Remind Launches Preferred Language Translation to Help Educators Connect With Students and Parents as More Schools Return to In-class Instruction

New solution makes Remind the only two-way communication platform that translates sent and received messages in the user’s preferred language with no smartphone or broadband requirements

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Remind, the leading digital communication platform in education, today announced the official launch of preferred language translation to enable educators to effectively engage with families in the language they speak at home. This new solution comes at a time when seamless communication between the school, educators and parents is critical, as students prepare to return to in-person instruction this fall. Preferred language translation is the only tool of its kind to enable two-way translations that allow parents and students to receive and respond to messages in their home language.

"Creating more equity across school districts is increasingly important after coming off a challenging academic year and heading into one that could present even more hurdles,” said Brian Grey, CEO of Remind. “This fall, it will be even more important to mitigate any possible barriers to communication and strengthen the connections that provide parents and students with critical information, class updates and resources at the teacher, school and district levels."

The company has also launched updates to its rostering solution that will streamline translations adoption in school districts that enable syncing. Remind supports a variety of rostering integrations including SFTP, Clever and OneRoster, among others—and now all of them allow customers to sync the preferred language of students, families and educators.

Remind’s preferred language translation provides messages that are automatically translated through the Remind app, SMS text messaging and on the web. Students and families can select from over 90 languages on the platform, which gives more flexibility and choice for district administrators and educators to reach students no matter what language they speak at home.

For school districts with the Remind plan, preferred language translation works across multiple communication channels, including SMS, in order to reach parents or families who may not have unlimited data plans, smartphones or access to broadband. In addition, Remind delivers advanced two-way language translation capabilities previously only available through mass notification providers. With Remind, administrators now have the ability to automatically translate communication at every level: district, school and classroom.

“During this challenging past year, we were determined to rethink our approach to engaging parents and students beyond the traditional channels,” said Don Wolff, CTO of Portland Public Schools. “We implemented Remind to ensure that we could reach more of our students and families in ways they prefer to communicate. With the new preferred language translation solution, we see it helping to provide even more equity for our families across various backgrounds and languages to ensure they are kept up on the latest and have access to all the necessary resources.”

Remind's new translation features also work from inside the school district's preferred LMS via the recently updated LTI 1.0 integration, making it easier than ever to share grades, assignments and more.
