Michigan Virtual Charter Academy Class of 2021 To Be Celebrated with Online Graduation Ceremony

HAZEL PARK, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a year where every school in America was affected by the pandemic, Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), an online public school serving K-12 grade students throughout the state since 2010, will celebrate its graduates virtually with a commencement ceremony on Friday, June 4 beginning at 7 pm. Information on the ceremony can be found at MVCA’s Facebook page.

“Other schools struggled this year, but MVCA never missed a day of instruction, which was key to getting our students to move forward,” said MVCA Head of School Randy Rodriguez. “This was certainly a challenging year, but our students and families got what they needed to move on to the next step in their lives.”

This year, MVCA will graduate 303 students. Sakari Wilcox is MVCA’s 2021 valedictorian. and plans to attend Michigan State in the fall. The Salutatorian is Hope Kuenker and will be attending Saginaw Valley State University.

“I’ll forever be grateful that they helped me move onto the next level of my education,” said Sakari. “This year was a whole new kind of struggle and we all couldn’t have gone through it without the continued support of our teachers at MVCA.”

Collectively, the graduating class reports it has been accepted to colleges and universities across Michigan and beyond, including University of Michigan Dearborn, Henry Ford College, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State, Saginaw Valley State University and Oakland University.

Prior to the pandemic, students enrolled in virtual school for a number of reasons—some were looking to escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others were looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom setting.

MVCA students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives and attend live virtual classes taught by state-certified teachers.
