35 Fiduciary Advocates and Leaders Announce Formation of Center for Board Certified Fiduciaries

Will affiliate with one or more universities to provide graduate-level fiduciary coursework; develop protocols for the outsourcing of fiduciary responsibility; and provide peer-reviewed board certifications

STONINGTON, Conn.--()--Thirty-five fiduciary advocates and leaders have founded a Public Benefit Corporation to accelerate the development of exemplary fiduciaries. The public purpose for the new Center for Board Certified Fiduciaries™ (CBCF™) is to:

  • Affiliate with one or more universities to provide an executive education certificate in fiduciary leadership, stewardship, and governance. Over time, develop the curricula for the first Master’s and Ph.D. programs with a concentration in fiduciary responsibility.
  • Provide the critical infrastructure to conduct and publish research and thought leadership on fiduciary standards and associated best practices.
  • Board certify fiduciary professionals in a specific field of specialization. For example, a person may seek to be board certified to work with defined contribution (DC) plans, while another may desire to be board certified to work with foundations and endowments.

“The vast majority of our country’s liquid investable wealth is in the hands of fiduciaries. As critical as their role is to the fiscal health of our country, we don’t have a single university that offers graduate-level fiduciary education coursework in fiduciary governance,” said Don Jones, BCF™ Chairman of the Board.

CBCF™ also has just released its first workbook for professionals contemplating board certification.

“The new coursework includes research associated with groundbreaking studies in Neuro-leadership, except now the work is being applied to fiduciaries,” said CBCF’s CEO, Don Trone, BCF™. “The response from the academic and fiduciary community has been powerful. This coursework represents the fourth-generation of fiduciary training; the content is broader and deeper than anything previously developed.”

“There is an enormous public benefit in what fiduciaries do for nonprofits, retirement plans, public pensions and investors. The BCF™ mark will help to identify and differentiate the exemplary fiduciary,” Mr. Jones added.

About the BCF™ Mark: The Board Certified Fiduciary™ (BCF™) is a professional mark awarded by the Center for Board Certified Fiduciaries™ (CBCF™) that recognizes the knowledge, skills, work experience and special expertise of an exemplary fiduciary leader.
