Yieldstreet Announces Addition to Art Loan Portfolio With Artworks From Warhol, Lichtenstein

Platform Offers New Way To Invest In Art-Backed Loans, Powered By Proprietary Data Analytics

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Yieldstreet, the alternative investing platform helping retail investors build income-generating investment portfolios, has added a new $11.3 million junior loan participation to its Diversified Art Portfolio I, powered by proprietary data analytics built by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Athena Art Finance. The new participation is backed by a diversified pool of five blue-chip artworks created by pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

The latest participation adds to Yieldstreet’s Diversified Art Portfolio I, which provides retail investors with the opportunity to gain exposure to a diversified pool of ten art loans with a single investment. These art loans are backed by blue-chip artworks created by world-renowned artists including Jeff Koons, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford and KAWS. With this additional participation, the Diversified Art Portfolio I, initially launched in 2019, is re-opening and accepting additional investments.

"We are the first platform to offer access to art-backed credit risk as an investing category. By democratizing access to art-backed loans, we are providing investors a unique opportunity to invest in a new asset class with typically low stock market correlation," said Cynthia E. Sachs, Managing Director at Yieldstreet & Chief Investment Officer of Athena Art Finance.

The artworks in this Portfolio were selected by leveraging a proprietary data-driven underwriting process which aggregates complex variables related to artists’ liquidity and specific artwork characteristics to derive a proprietary score.

"Our proprietary analytics enable us to more efficiently and effectively underwrite our art loans, giving us a competitive advantage in the art finance market. Our algorithms specifically focus on both the artist and artwork levels, informing our investment decisions ultimately based on the relative liquidity of our collateral," said Cynthia E. Sachs, Chief Investment Officer of Athena Art Finance.

Since acquiring Athena Art Finance Corp. from the Carlyle Group in the spring of 2019, Yieldstreet has funded more than $205 million of art-backed loans on its platform and has returned over $75 million in principal and interest in this asset class.
