CHICAGO--()--Dog owners are passionate about their pooches, and their ideas for how best to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their four-legged friends reflect just how much love is in the air.

A recent survey commissioned by High Hopes® for Pets, the mission-driven dog treats and food company founded to help homeless pets, discovered that nearly half (47%) of dog owners say one of the best ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their dog is to make or buy a special doggy treat for them to enjoy. Conducted by The Harris Poll among more than 1,200 U.S. dog owners, the consumer behavior survey sought to find dog owners’ thoughts on celebrating Valentine’s Day with their pups. Runner-up activity preferences were dedicated ‘doggy and me’ time such as a game of fetch or romp in the park at 42% and cuddling on the couch while watching a dog movie together at 38%.

In essence, what these results reveal is that for dog owners, Valentine’s Day isn’t just reserved for showing love to companions of the human variety.

In addition to donating 15% of profits to organizations dedicated to ending pet homelessness, High Hopes is helping spread the love to homeless pets this Valentine’s Day by awarding two $2,500 grants to animal shelters and rescues nominated by their communities. Interested animal lovers can complete the nomination form to submit their favorite local shelter for the contest and receive a receive a free High Hopes signature heart-shaped XOXO™ treat™ to share with their pooch.

“At our core, we celebrate people’s love of dogs – both their own dogs and the many homeless ones in search of their forever homes,” said Paula Etchison, founder of High Hopes for Pets. “To help spread the puppy love this Valentine’s Day, we’re enlisting our devoted customers and dog lovers everywhere to help us reward worthy shelters by nominating them to win a grant to support their efforts to end pet homelessness.
