Impact Education, LLC and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) Release New Whitepaper on Payer Considerations for Providing Support to People With MS and Their Care Partners

BLUE BELL, Pa.--()--Impact Education, LLC (IMPACT) and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) announce the release of a new whitepaper based on key findings from a series of dynamic roundtable discussions between payers and multiple sclerosis (MS) healthcare providers. MS affects about 1,000,000 people in the United States and while quality care is imperative, the rising total cost of care can impact patient access to appropriate treatments.

“The roundtable discussions and resulting whitepaper were an important first step in improving the overall value and quality of care delivered to MS patients,” says Kyle Pinion, Senior Director, Education, Healthcare Relations & Advocacy. “Opportunities for payers, providers and leaders in the MS community to share their perspectives and identify common priorities move the needle closer to higher quality and affordable care for MS patients and their families.”

“Serving as an educational partner with MSAA on this important initiative,” explains Steven Casebeer, MBA, Executive Vice President and Managing Director at IMPACT, “was directly in line with our company’s mission to improve patient outcomes and cost-effectiveness by facilitating a meaningful dialogue and opportunity for learning.”

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord. MS damages or destroys the protective covering (known as myelin) surrounding the nerves of the CNS, and can potentially injure the nerves as well. This damage causes reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways. Common MS symptoms include visual problems, overwhelming fatigue, difficulty with balance and coordination, depression and cognitive issues, and various levels of impaired mobility. The prevalence of multiple sclerosis is estimated at nearly one million people nationwide and most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 50. MS is not contagious and researchers continue to look for both a cause and a cure.
