Insights showcase the evolution of online fundraising, how people came together to support each other in 2020, and offer a simple way to continue helping those in need

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Today, GoFundMe, the world’s leading fundraising platform, released its annual Giving Report. This year marks 10 years of giving on GoFundMe and the annual report highlights how the global GoFundMe community continues to unite to support those in need. Since the company’s founding in 2010, more than $10 billion has been raised from over 150 million donations supporting individuals, causes, and organizations across the globe.

Activity on GoFundMe this year was a mirror of global current events and reflected the most pressing and important issues in society. From raising money for PPE for frontline workers and helping small businesses stay afloat to fighting racial injustices and supporting those impacted by natural disasters, the GoFundMe community took action to support immediate and long-term needs.

This year, the America’s Food Fund fundraiser became the largest GoFundMe of all time, raising over $44 million to help people facing food insecurity due to COVID-19. Additionally, the Official George Floyd Memorial Fund received over 500,000 donations —- more than any other fundraiser in GoFundMe history.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the GoFundMe community has responded to the widespread impact with an extraordinary level of generosity. Between March and August of this year, over $625 million was raised through over 9 million donations for people, causes, and charities affected by the pandemic. The result has been an untold number of lifelines being extended to individuals, small businesses, and organizations worldwide.

In the report, GoFundMe states, “Throughout the hardships of 2020, we’ve seen an extraordinary outpouring of generosity from a global community that’s united by a desire to take action and help others.” The report goes on to say, “It’s important to remember that we’re our best when we come together. As we look toward 2021 and enter the next decade of giving, we can build a more caring world and inspire hope for a better tomorrow.”
