Geotab Takes On Device Distraction With ‘Phones Down, Eyes Up’ Virtual Concert to Benefit Global Safety Initiatives

In its third year, live concert event gives viewers around the world the opportunity to enjoy musical performances while spreading the message of shared responsibility in creating safer roads for everyone — no matter which side of the wheel

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Geotab:

WHAT:

The dangers of distracted driving are well known, and efforts to prevent it include countless laws, regulations and public awareness campaigns, as well as technological advancements to both vehicles and devices. But the distractions created by those devices don’t stop once we’re out of the driver’s seat. Distracted walking injuries are on the rise and are also a significant safety threat. Whether in the car or on foot, people need to be aware of their surroundings by keeping their Phones Down and their Eyes Up.

For the first time, Geotab will be hosting its annual Phones Down, Eyes Up benefit concert online. And, for every person who watches the virtual event, Geotab will donate $5 to Brake, a registered charity whose initiatives promote road safety, sustainable transport, and support for victims of road crashes.

In addition to musical acts, special guest speakers from local Ontario government and police, as well as safety organizations including San Francisco-based Vision Zero Network will share expert insights on road safety.

WHERE:

Details for attending the virtual benefit concert can be found here.

WHEN:

Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. ET

Benefit concert re-screenings will be held:

- Friday, December 11 at 4:00 p.m. ACT

- Friday, December 11 at 4:00 p.m. CET

WHY:

The Phones Down, Eyes Up campaign was created in honor of Brandon Walli. Brandon lost his life at the age of 23 while crossing the road in 2016. It was thought that he had been texting and walking at the time. Geotab and Tom Walli, Brandon’s father and long-time Geotab employee, are hosting this free concert and informational event to shed light on managing device distraction in everyday life.

WHO:

As one of the world’s largest telematics providers, Geotab strongly believes in the power that technology has to create positive change, especially in the areas of fleet optimization and driver safety. This is why the company is raising awareness around the dangers of distracted driving and walking. Eliminating distractions is a critical step toward creating a safe environment for all road users.
