Morrow Sodali’s John Wilcox Awarded International Corporate Governance Network Lifetime Achievement Award

Wilcox Authors Book: The Evolution of Corporate Governance

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Morrow Sodali, the global shareholder engagement and governance consulting firm, is thrilled to announce that its Chairman Emeritus, John C. Wilcox, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN).

The ICGN Governance Award is given annually to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in the field of corporate governance and contributed to significant improvements in one or more jurisdictions. The inaugural Awards were made at the 2001 ICGN Annual Conference in Tokyo to Sir Adrian Cadbury (UK), Ira M. Millstein (USA) and Professor Hasung Jang (Korea). Since then, awards have been made annually to pioneers in corporate governance.

‘’We at Morrow Sodali could not be more pleased that John has been recognized with ICGN’s Lifetime Achievement Award. As our Executive Chairman for more than a decade, and now as our Chairman Emeritus, John has provided leadership and vision, always guided by the highest principles and goals for companies and shareholders,’’ commented Alvise Recchi, Morrow Sodali’s CEO.

In his acceptance speech at the ICGN annual summit, Mr. Wilcox said, ”The ICGN taught me several important lessons: (1) that there are at least two sides to every governance issue; (2) that shareholders and companies should not be viewed as adversaries; (3) that in the end the interests of companies and shareholders (and now stakeholders) should be aligned around a common goal of sustainable performance. This concept of aligned interests has been a polar star for me. It has guided my thinking, my writing and my advice to companies and investors. Today we are seeing real progress in companies’ willingness to treat shareholders and other stakeholders as members of the corporate family rather than as adversaries. The ICGN shares much of the credit for this progress.’’

Mr. Wilcox served as Morrow Sodali’s Chairman from 2006 through 2020. From 2003 to 2008 he was Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Governance at TIAA-CREF, one of the world’s largest private pension systems. Prior to joining TIAA-CREF he was chairman of Georgeson & Company, the U.S. proxy and investor relations firm. John is the author of many articles and white papers on corporate governance, proxy voting, shareholder communications and board responsibility, which have appeared in many prestigious publications. He has testified before Congress and regulatory agencies in markets around the world on matters relating to securities regulation and is on the faculty of a variety of director education programs. Mr. Wilcox received a B.A. from Harvard College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and an LL.M degree from New York University Graduate School of Law.

In connection with the award, Morrow Sodali is pleased to announce the publication of a collection of John’s writings in a new book entitled, The Evolution of Corporate Governance, available for download/order on Morrow Sodali’s website.
