Corestream Chief Operating Officer Gwen Tormey Named Tampa Bay Business Journal 40 Under 40 Honoree

Tormey recognized for contribution to Corestream’s business success, strong leadership and commitment to mentorship

TAMPA, Fla.--()--Corestream, the leading platform for connecting employees with personalized voluntary benefits, today announced that Chief Operating Officer Gwen Tormey has been named a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Tampa Bay Business Journal. As a leader, Tormey works alongside Corestream executives to ensure the company evolves into a scalable, data-driven organization that cultivates a culture of professional development, while improving employee engagement and mentorship, which Tormey considers a strong personal passion.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 awards program recognizes business leaders who have achieved success in their respective industries. Nearly 500 nominations were submitted this year. On October 23, the honorees will be recognized in a special section in the weekly edition of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

“The TBBJ’s 40 Under 40 is one of the most coveted honors in the Tampa Bay business community, just by the sheer volume of submissions our team receives,” said Ian Anderson, Tampa Bay Business Journal market president and publisher. “For Gwen to be honored among this elite class of overachievers is an outstanding achievement, and it will help others in our community identify our business leaders of tomorrow.”

Tormey joined Corestream in 2017 as Vice President of Strategy. In January 2020, she was appointed as Chief Operating Officer. From the beginning of Tormey’s tenure, Corestream consistently experienced over 30 percent year-over-year topline growth. Tormey led the company’s roll-out of new technologies to increase organizational productivity to support growth. In 2019, she played an active role in securing a private equity round from LLR Partners to further accelerate adoption among Fortune 500 companies and innovation of its popular SaaS platform.

“It’s been an honor to observe Gwen’s impressive career development since she joined Corestream. Her commitment to the Corestream brand has positively impacted the business and organizational culture,” said Neil Vaswani, CEO and founder of Corestream. “Gwen’s dedication to our company culture in addition to her results-driven and solutions-oriented approach to business make her an exemplary leader. She is a trusted mentor, colleague and friend. It’s been inspiring to work alongside Gwen to build the Corestream business—many of our successes today could not have been met without her. We’re proud she earned this distinction and couldn’t be more excited for her future.”

In addition to Gwen’s focus on data and analytics, she is a firm believer in fostering positive relationships. Intentional with her approach to company culture, Gwen recently spearheaded a program to cultivate employee talent. After a process which included formalizing reviews, creating a two-way feedback system, leadership coaching, standardized compensation reviews, and improved benefits plans, Corestream achieved a Net Promoter Score of 72. A score of 10 through 30 is considered good and a score of over 50 is excellent.

Passionate about mentorship, Gwen is an active member of the Tampa Bay Wave Accelerator Mentor Network, the Stanford Alumni Mentoring Program, and is a former board member of EDGE Youth Leadership. Through the Tampa Bay Wave, Gwen mentors startup founders based in Tampa Bay by providing advice on strategy, fundraising, business models and other startup-related topics.

“Mentorship is vital to anyone’s professional development,” said Gwen Tormey, Chief Operating Officer of Corestream. “Through mentoring, I’m able to share advice to help students and business leaders learn from my successes, but more importantly, avoid the pitfalls that I have experienced. I’ve gained so much from my own mentors, and try to pay it forward as much as I can.”
