TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Select Physicians Associates (SPA) announced today that its Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Accountable Care Organization (ACO) delivered $6.5 million in total savings to Medicare and $3.1 million in net savings, according to figures released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
SPA served more than 12K Medicare beneficiaries in Florida and Alabama earning a quality score of 97 percent, well above the national average. SPA had a difficult first year of operations in 2018. With negative results and the future of the organization at stake, they hired a new Head of Operations, Pawan Shah, a proven Industry expert and former Chief Compliance Officer for a 5-star Medicare Advantage Health Plan. Pawan was quick to revamp the organization and implement high-performance strategies that included Care Management, Provider Performance, Patient Care Quality and the Industry’s leading technology platform from the Garage.

Accountable Care Organization (ACO) is an organization of health care practitioners that agrees to be accountable for the quality, cost, and overall care of Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in the traditional fee-for-service program who are assigned to it. Medicare ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers and suppliers who come together voluntarily to provide coordinated, high-quality care at lower costs to their Original Medicare patients.
Bolstered by the 2019 performance, SPA announced plans to expand its membership in the coming years with an open invitation to provider participants nationwide. With a robust infrastructure and a high-performance management structure, it intends to create new ACOs and partner with existing ones across multiple states.
