Irvine USD Chooses STEMscopes CA NGSS 3D for Middle School Science Instruction

California’s top-ranked district in science performance will implement STEMscopes digital curricula built on CA NGSS and aligned to California Science Framework

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Irvine Unified School District (USD) has selected STEMscopes CA NGSS 3D from Accelerate Learning for science instruction in 10 schools. The district, which is ranked number one in the state on the California Science Test (CAST), will begin using the phenomena-based, three dimensional science curriculum this summer.

Irvine USD plans to implement STEMscopes CA NGSS 3D in grades 7-8 in all of its six middle schools and in grades 6-8 in all four K-8 schools. The curriculum, which was adopted by the California State Board of Education in November 2018, is built on the California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS) and aligned to the California Science Framework.

“Our teachers have performed magnificently in designing, curating, and crafting courses and instructional materials to meet the new state standards in science, and last year’s CAST results were a testament to their success,” said Chris Weber, Ed.D., director of STEM for Irvine USD. “However, it has been a long time since the last adoption of science instructional materials, and our teachers are hungry for new materials. STEMscopes CA NGSS 3D supports our vision for science instruction, and we know it will enhance science teaching and learning, both in the classroom and in a distance learning environment.”

STEMscopes CA NGSS 3D is centered on phenomena-based instruction to drive student inquiry and a passion for STEM, while helping students prepare for the CAST. The comprehensive, hands-on STEM curriculum is also available in Spanish for grades K-8
