Eventbrite Reports Accelerated Growth in Online Events

With nearly twenty thousand online events published a day, Eventbrite is fulfilling the timeless need for human connection

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Eventbrite (NYSE: EB), a global ticketing and experience technology platform, today unveiled new data that demonstrates accelerated growth in online experiences, and underscores its ability to help event creators move their events online in response to COVID-19.

Eventbrite released its enhanced online events service in 2019. Now, with nearly twenty thousand online events being published daily and a 2,000+% year-over-year increase of online events taking place in April 2020 compared to April 2019, Eventbrite continues to be one of the leading platforms for connecting with new experiences globally.

“Eventbrite plays a vital role in bringing people together and during this unprecedented time, we’re focused on helping creators adapt from live to online events while also connecting with people in their communities and around the world,” said Julia Hartz, co-founder and CEO of Eventbrite. “While this devastating public health crisis brought on by COVID-19 has ground the live experiences economy to a halt, we’re encouraged by the increase in demand for online experiences as it shows our timeless need for human connection remains as strong as ever.”

Eventbrite has seen a significant shift in consumer behavior with a 9x increase in searches for “online events” as people crave ways to connect during social distancing and shelter in place restrictions. From online seminars to livestream dance parties, this is opening up opportunities for event creators to extend their reach around the world.

“Moving our craft education events online has opened a whole new world for us,” said Steph Newman, founder of Crowned Sparrow Craft Company. “Before COVID-19, we hosted our classes in local craft breweries, but now we’re seeing people sign up for our events on Eventbrite from all over the country. We’re able to ship make-your-own craft kits to participants ahead of the class and they’re loving it. We’re helping provide a sense of community on top of an experience, and it’s exciting.”

Nearly half of the online events that consumers are attending are health and wellness-related like yoga and meditation classes, or business and professional events, such as seminars and workshops. Looking at the year-over-year data (comparing April 2019 to April 2020), health and wellness online events saw a 2,200+% increase, while business and professional online events increased 1,100+%.

The data also revealed the median price paid for a ticket to an online event is $29 USD and that consumers are loyal, with 78% purchasing tickets to multiple events hosted by the same creator.

“It’s inspiring to see the innovative ways creators are leveraging our platform to deliver on our innate need to connect,” continued Hartz. “We expect online experiences will continue to play a big role in events post-pandemic, and we’re committed to helping our creators succeed with any event format, whether in-person or virtual.”
