Schools Have Closed, But Learning Continues: K12 Provides Education Relief Nationwide

More than 150,000 students, families and educators access free best-in-class, tech-enabled resources

HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For millions of American families, the 2020-2021 school year as they knew it has come to a standstill. One month after responding to the nationwide educational crisis wrought by COVID-19, K12 Inc. (NYSE: LRN) has provided more than 150,000 students, families and teachers with access to free educational and instructional tools and resources. Despite nationwide school closures, the company is helping students and teachers get back to school this academic year.

K12 has more than 20 years of experience delivering online and in-person instruction to students across the country. An estimated 33,000 students are benefiting from K12’s offer of a 30-day free trial of district-level solutions, including access to a ready-built online platform, experienced state-licensed online teachers and professional development support, and an interactive, standards-aligned curriculum that can be integrated with offline content. Districts can implement an online learning solution today. They can also work with K12 to create an education continuity plan or a ready-to-implement blend of online and in-person instruction and learning that can be used in the future.

“School and work have changed forever, and the ability to effectively offer online education is no longer a choice for school leaders, it’s a necessity. But there is a difference between the educational experience the American people are getting at home right now, and what online learning has the potential to deliver,” said Nate Davis, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. “For K12, this is not a new frontier. We stand ready to help at this critical time, and with whatever comes next for America’s schools. By offering our resources and decades of experience, we hope to deliver on our commitment to providing an education for anyone.”

To help educators in real time, K12 has leveraged the expertise of its more than 6,000 online educators to host more than 160 webinars and other live virtual events over the last month. Topics draw from K12’s research-based online instruction practices to share activity and lesson templates, tips for motivating students and building virtual classroom culture, and strategies for staying connected and mentally healthy during these uncertain times.

K12 is also offering a variety of free tools directly to families and students—including unlimited access to thousands of eBooks in both English and Spanish through Big Universe, and to Stride, an online, adaptive game-based learning platform for math, reading, language arts, and science. Since March, more than 40,000 families have accessed these platforms at no cost.

In addition to free resources for those new to online learning, the nearly 120,000 full-time students at K12-powered online schools have continued their academic year uninterrupted by the pandemic. In 30 states these public schools continue to provide a structured learning experience that is personalized to meet the needs of each student.
