DUBAI--()--His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, The Emirates’ Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future and Secretary General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), along with international advocacy organization Global Citizen, in partnership with Teneo, the global CEO advisory firm, today announced that the Emirates will join Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream, as the seventh host city to join the ten-hour global media event.

Global Goal Live will be one of the biggest humanitarian events in Dubai, spanning six continents, for one of the largest live-broadcast cause events in history. The campaign calls on governments, philanthropists, and the private sector to provide the $350 billion needed annually for people and the planet to achieve the Global Goals. Anticipated to reach an audience of billions of viewers worldwide, the campaign will culminate on September 26, 2020, with an historic 10-hour global broadcast. The event being produced by The Emirates joins previously announced events in Central Park in New York City; Lagos, Nigeria and Seoul, South Korea, with events in to-be-announced cities in Latin America and Europe.

"We could not be more excited to see Global Goal Live heading to Dubai, and for the campaign’s first ever live event in the Middle East,” said Hugh Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen. “Ending extreme poverty is a global effort, which will require input and advocacy from leaders across every continent. We are proud to count The Emirates as part of this movement.”

CEO of Teneo Declan Kelly continued, “We are thrilled that The Emirates is joining us as part of the ‘Global Goal Live’ campaign, as we look to build a coalition of corporations, governments, artists, philanthropists and global citizens who all have a critical role in helping secure the $350 billion needed annually in order to achieve the Global Goals.”

The event in Dubai is being independently produced by The Emirates and will be featured in the Global Goal Live broadcast around the world. The first wave of leaders in music and entertainment who already raised their hands to perform at one of the five Global Goal Live events, and support the campaign include: Alicia Keys, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, D'banj, Eddie Vedder, EXO, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Lizzo, Metallica, Miley Cyrus, Muse, Ozuna, Ozzy Osbourne, Pharrell Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shawn Mendes, Tiwa Savage, Usher, and more. Hosts include: Deborra-lee Furness & Hugh Jackman, Idris Elba, Jill Vedder, Rachel Brosnahan, Trevor Noah, and Uzo Aduba, with more participants to be added in the coming months.

Global Goal Live in Dubai will boost The Emirates’ efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and provide a better future for all, especially youth. The news was announced as part of The Emirates delegation’s participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2020 in Davos, Switzerland. During its participation at the WEF Forum’s Reimagining the World’s Biggest Challenges panel, organized at Davos, The Emirates also announced that it has launched the Global Coder initiative, which will teach coding and provide certifications to 5 million young citizens from disenfranchised international communities.

“Hosting Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream in September reflects The Emirates’ humanitarian efforts to eradicate worldwide poverty. The Emirates is pushing a transition in humanitarian efforts towards greater utilization of technology to empower communities driven by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” said His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi. “Teaching 5 million young individuals how to code is the biggest worldwide project in its field; it’s a signal of support and hope from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to the world’s youth.”

The major coding initiative represents a global human-centric endeavor to spread hope and provide a bright future for the less fortunate communities in the world by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to become experts in the language of the future: coding. That, in turn, will help them rise above the daily challenges they face, and open-up opportunities for them to thrive, innovate and better their communities.

“The ‘Global Coder’ initiative will provide a fully-integrated, educational platform to teach computer science and coding in partnership with the biggest global organizations, under the supervision of internationally-certified experts to ensure the training program is the best, most comprehensive of its kind, stated Khalfan Belhoul, Khalfan Belhoul, Chief Executive Officer of DFF. “The platform will be free to use for millions of young individuals from around the world and will aim to build a future global community equipped with the tools and skills of coding, and one that is qualified to positively impact the creation of technologically-driven jobs. That, in turn, will contribute towards the development of a sustainable knowledge-based economy and the enhancement of the technology sector in various communities.”

Belhoul added, “This initiative, to be implemented by MBRGI and DFF, reflects The Emirates’ emphasis on sharing its expertise with the world in the hope of providing a bright, promising future for youth in disenfranchised communities, by equipping them with future-ready skills and capabilities, to provide them with job opportunities that can better their communities.”

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) was established in 2015, combining under its umbrella over 30 humanitarian and developmental initiatives and entities, most of which have been launched and supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates Ruler of Dubai, for more than 20 years. The Foundation’s humanitarian, social and development initiatives and entities are primarily devoted to supporting and empowering vulnerable and disadvantaged communities around the world. The MBRGI is the largest regional foundation in terms of the number of institutional initiatives that lead wide-reaching programs and projects on a global scale. Besides major time-bound humanitarian aid and relief operations, the MBRGI entities and initiatives also support vital societal sectors and develop practical and innovative solutions to address cultural, knowledge, economic, social, health, environment, and humanitarian challenges in the region and the world.

Global Citizen, in partnership with Teneo, recently launched the Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream campaign, set to become the largest live-broadcast cause event in history. The global campaign aims to mobilize everyday citizens, corporations, governments, and billionaire philanthropists to reprioritize efforts to end extreme poverty and ensure the realization of the Global Goals. In 2015, 193 world leaders committed themselves to the Global Goals, a series of ambitious targets to end extreme poverty by 2030. This year marks one decade left to achieve that deadline. The funding needed - $350 billion annually, breaks down to just an additional $230 per person, money that will give the 1.5 billion citizens living in the 59 poorest nations access to basic health care, quality education, competent infrastructure and sanitation, social protection, and adaptation to climate change.
