Class 8 Retail Depreciation Relaxed in November

MCLEAN, Va.--()--In the December 2019 Commercial Truck Guidelines Industry Update, analysts from J.D. Power Valuation Services reported that auction conditions are similar to last month. Depreciation relaxed and pricing movement in the retail channel is only noticeable in trucks about to turn three years old. The medium-duty truck market experienced a mixed month, with cabovers and Class 6 conventionals turning in an unimpressive performance.

Fewer auctions are on the calendar for the upcoming winter months, so it will be more difficult to identify developing pricing trends,” said Chris Visser, Commercial Truck Senior Analyst at J.D. Power Valuation Services. “We expect current conditions to be in place until late in the first quarter, at which point we should have some sense of whether pricing has reached a bottom.”

Major findings in the free monthly report note:

  • Class 8 auction conditions similar to last month
  • Depreciation relaxed in the retail channel
  • Mild pullback for medium duty cabovers and heavier conventionals
