Ayla Networks Announces Exponential Growth in Revenue from an Expanding Roster of High-Quality Customers

Company leads the way in emerging trends for auto-replenishment of consumables, new uses for voice assistants, and white-labeled smart-home devices

MILPITAS, Calif.--()--Ayla Networks, a privately held provider of an Internet of Things (IoT) platform-as-a-service (PaaS) for smart home device manufacturers and service providers, today reported that its revenue has grown more than 2000% since 2014. In addition, the company has more than doubled the transaction volume on its Ayla IoT cloud platform for each of the past two years.

“Only five years ago we were a newly funded startup,” said Prashanth Shetty, Ayla Networks’ vice president of global marketing. “It truly gives us pause to consider how far we’ve come.”

Last month, Ayla Networks placed 35th on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 Software Companies list and eighth among Fast 500 companies headquartered in Silicon Valley. Ayla Networks’ chief executive officer, Jonathan Cobb, credited the company’s roster of marquee customers for the revenue growth.

Based on the activities of Ayla customers during the year, Cobb observed three IoT market trends expected to emerge in 2020: 1) the adoption of automatic replenishment of consumable items for connected appliances, 2) new uses for voice assistants in smart homes, and 3) white-labeling of IoT components and devices for connected-product retailers, manufacturers and service providers.

Recurring Revenue from Replenishment

Automatic reordering of consumables, enabled by the Ayla technology platform, offers convenience to consumers as well as new revenue streams for IoT product and service providers. For example, Ayla recently announced a partnership with Hamilton Beach to develop a system for automatic reordering of coffee and brewing supplies for Hamilton Beach coffee makers.

"Connected appliances have allowed Hamilton Beach to enhance consumers' experiences and offer features that are new and different from what is currently on the market,” said Atle Larsen, vice president of product marketing, Hamilton Beach Brands. “We selected the Ayla IoT platform to help us with the development of connected products for its security and reliability in delivering a customized experience."

Voice Assistants for Ordering Home Services

Voice assistants continue to evolve as more companies develop ways to take advantage of ubiquitous smart speakers in people’s homes.

“The growth of the voice-control and smart-speakers market is highlighting a new revenue stream for service companies,” said Cobb. “The potential is huge as companies find ways to tap into ‘OK Google,’ ‘Hey Siri’ and ‘Alexa’ voice commands.”

Several companies this year chose Ayla IoT technology to add voice control to their connected products. For example, the Ayla IoT platform allows Hampton Products door lock owners to control their home locks by voice command through Google Assistant.

White-Labeling IoT Devices for Retailers, OEMs & Service Providers

Retailers and OEMs are adopting Ayla Fast Track turnkey white-label service, which provides secure, pre-tested and pre-configured IoT devices and modules to speed the time to market for fully-featured smart home products. Such white-label services enable retailers, manufacturers and service providers to expand their smart home device offerings by integrating these pre-certified IoT components and devices, according to Cobb.

Ayla Networks’ Fast Track service includes nearly 100 ready-to-integrate devices as well as pre-built embedded modules for Wi-Fi, cellular and gateway connectivity.

Among the many possible use cases, Fast Track allows:

  • Retailers to offer secure, store-branded smart-home consumer devices, such as connected light bulbs, door locks and smart plugs, that work right out of the box.
  • Manufacturers to easily add voice control to existing connected products.
  • Service providers to expand their range of subscription services by offering subscribers easy, hassle-free connectivity for smart-home service solutions.

“Ayla Networks’ Fast Track approach—leveraging their deep IoT expertise to act as a single supplier of integrated, fully managed IoT hardware, software and services—is the wave of the future,” said Andre Ramirez, an energy management industry leader. “It means that companies can more easily go to market with new offerings that boost our revenue stream, while offering significant value for both owners and providers of smart-home appliances and other products.”

Ayla is attending CES 2020 in Las Vegas Jan. 7-10 as an exhibitor and sponsor. Ayla experts will be available for consultations with attendees at Booth #41449 on the Sands Expo Show Floor in the smart home section and in a hospitality suite in the Palazzo Hotel.
