R. Milton Johnson, Retired Chairman and CEO of HCA Healthcare, Named Innovator of the Year by Press Ganey

BOSTON--()--Press Ganey today honored retired Chairman and CEO of HCA Healthcare, R. Milton Johnson, with its 2019 Innovator of the Year Award. The award was presented by Press Ganey Executive Chairman Patrick T. Ryan at the organization’s annual National Client Conference in Orlando, Florida, in front of an audience of more than 3,400 health care professionals.

The Innovator of the Year Award is given annually at the conference and recognizes an outstanding leader who has challenged the status quo to improve the overall safety, quality, and experience of care and who has advanced the health care industry through disruptive change.

“Over his distinguished 36-year career at HCA, Milton Johnson has redefined the health care landscape and embraced the mission to reduce suffering and improve the safety and quality of patient care,” said Ryan. “His bold leadership and dedication to the innovation of health care throughout his time at HCA has accelerated the transformation of our industry.”

Johnson joined Nashville-based HCA Healthcare in 1982. In 2004, he was appointed executive vice president of the organization, and in 2014 he became chairman and chief executive officer. In 2018, Johnson was named as one of Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare based on the success of his strong leadership at HCA.

HCA Healthcare comprises 185 hospitals and 119 freestanding surgery centers across 21 U.S. states and the United Kingdom, and has been operating for more than 50 years.
