The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund Names Zev Lowe as Executive Director

SAN FRANCISCO--()--The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund today announced that Zev Lowe has joined as the organization’s executive director.

With support from thousands of individual donors over 33 years, the Season of Sharing Fund has distributed $138 million to help more than 150,000 individuals and families who have suffered the loss of a job, a serious illness or other crisis. By providing support for housing assistance, critical family needs and food banks, the Season of Sharing Fund prevents homelessness and hunger throughout the nine counties of the Bay Area.

In his new role, Lowe will elevate the Fund’s strong base of support and community partnerships to broaden its impact in reducing homelessness and poverty.

“Zev joins the Fund at a critical time when it feels harder and harder for families to get by in the Bay Area,” said Audrey Cooper, editor in chief of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Zev’s expertise in nonprofit business development will make it possible for the Fund to provide a lifeline to more individuals and families throughout our region.”

Lowe brings more than 10 years of leadership experience. Prior to joining the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund, he was vice president of growth and impact at Atma Connect, an award-winning tech nonprofit focused on creating connections for vulnerable communities.

Before Atma Connect, Lowe was part of the founding team of Worldreader, a Fast Company “most innovative” global technology nonprofit. As a member of Worldreader’s global leadership team, Lowe developed partnerships that brought reading materials to millions of people in Africa, Asia, and South America.

“Zev will help us grow the Fund, which will enable us to prevent more of our neighbors from becoming homeless,” said Bill Nagel, publisher and CEO of the San Francisco Chronicle and president of the Fund. “We look forward to working with Zev to write a powerful new chapter in the Fund’s work to keep people in their homes and off the streets.”

“It’s a privilege to join the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund and to have the opportunity to help our Bay Area neighbors find the support they need to stay in their homes and rebuild their lives after a crisis,” Lowe said. “I look forward to applying my experience to help Season of Sharing further advance its impact on our community.”

Lowe earned his MBA from ESADE Business School and his undergraduate degree in computer science and anthropology from Dartmouth College.

About the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund

Since 1986, the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund has raised and distributed $138 million to help thousands of Bay Area families facing unforeseen crises in their lives, including the loss of a job, a life-threatening illness or a natural disaster. The Fund provides temporary assistance for housing and other emergency needs for individuals, families, seniors, veterans, and those living with disabilities. Through a network of 150 community service agencies covering the nine-county Bay Area, the Fund works to identify residents in need and provide short-term, critical assistance. In addition, the Fund supports local food banks and distributes more than $1 million each year to assist individuals and families who might otherwise go hungry. All of the Fund’s administrative expenses are covered by the San Francisco Chronicle and the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, co-founders of the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund. As a result, 100 percent of donations received by the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund go directly to help residents in greatest need.
