October Is the New June as the Most Popular Wedding Month According to Friar Tux

ANAHEIM, Calif.--()--The proverbial June bride has become the October bride as more couples in Southern California and Las Vegas now get married in October than any other month of the year.

That’s according to Anaheim, Calif.-based Friar Tux, the largest family-owned men’s formalwear provider in the country. For the second time in its 45-year history, Friar Tux’s advance rental and sales wedding bookings for October 2019 have surpassed June 2019 to make it the most popular wedding month of the year. The announcement represents the continuation of a Friar Tux rental and sales trend dating back to 2016.

“After decades of fitting and styling hundreds of thousands of summer wedding parties, we noticed the trend toward the fall several years ago,” said Greg Goodwin, president of Friar Tux. “For reasons including venue availability, costs and the weather, October has become the most popular month for weddings.”

Friar Tux’s announcement mirrors a nationwide trend of engaged couples selecting October and the fall over the historically traditional June and summer to say, “I do.” According to WeddingWire’s 2019 Newlywed Report, one of the industry’s most comprehensive annual wedding surveys, three of the five top wedding dates of 2019 are in October, a trend dating back to 2016. In a Brides Magazine survey, of the ten most popular wedding dates of 2019, four each are in October and September.

According to Goodwin, couples are choosing outdoor wedding venues like gardens, lakeside spaces and ranches because they are more comfortable in the fall. “This is translating to new style demands for autumnal color palettes – with green and brown suits in the fall gradually replacing the blues and greys of the summer.”

With 31 rental/sales locations in Southern California and Las Vegas dating back to 1974, Friar Tux is considered the region’s wedding expert, responsible for fitting more than two million grooms, groomsmen and even some brides who want to rock a suit or tuxedo on their big day.

“Friar Tux has a rich tradition which started as a single, family-owned store in Southern California 45 years ago and has since expanded its footprint throughout the West,” said Goodwin. “No other formalwear provider has styled more grooms, brides and prom guests since we rented our first tuxedo in 1974. And one of the most rewarding things about our business is being able to help people look their best for life’s most important moments.”

Earlier this year, Goodwin kicked-off the company’s 45th anniversary with a rededication of its original store, 1974-2019 tuxedo fashion show and official proclamations. The company hosted “Our True Love Story Photo + Caption Contest” to determine the most creative love story that ended in an engagement in 2019. The winning couple, Pat Brassil and Faith Rummel of Fullerton, Calif., received a $4,500 Grand Prize that included a Friar Tux tuxedo/suit rental, expert fitting and styling for up to seven people.
