The Standard Brings 11th Annual Volunteer Expo to Pioneer Square

Free event connects nonprofits with local volunteers and supporters

PORTLAND, Ore.--()--On Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, Portland’s largest volunteer expo returns to Pioneer Courthouse Square for its 11th year. The Volunteer Expo, presented by Standard Insurance Company (The Standard), is a free event with more than 125 participating nonprofits in one place. The expo was created by The Standard to help community members connect with nonprofits and learn about service and donation opportunities that match their skills and interests.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Volunteer Expo attendees can meet with and learn about a wide variety of nonprofits that make a difference in the community. Participating organizations represent the arts, culture, humanities, the environment, animal welfare, health, human services and more. If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference but weren’t sure how, the Volunteer Expo is a great place to start – whether you’re looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity or a longer-term commitment.

“The Standard values public service, and we live this value by promoting and supporting employee volunteerism and giving,” said Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard. “The Volunteer Expo is a tangible way for us to take our values to the larger community by providing a fun matchmaking opportunity for nonprofits and potential volunteers.”

The Volunteer Expo also kicks off The Standard’s annual Employee Giving Campaign. The campaign takes place in September and encourages employees to support nonprofit organizations of their choosing. During the 2019 campaign, employee contributions will again be matched 2:1 up to $5,000 per employee, for a total gift of up to $15,000 per employee to the school or nonprofit of the employee’s choosing. The 2018 campaign broke previous company records, raising $4.7 million. It benefited more than 1,800 schools and nonprofit organizations across the United State. Local recipients in 2018 included Transition Projects, Portland Homeless Family Solutions and the Dougy Center – all of whom will be at the 2019 Volunteer Expo.

Join us for the Volunteer Expo (#VExpo19) on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pioneer Square, located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Yamhill in downtown Portland. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Learn more at www.standard.com/volunteer.
