NEWARK, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sallie Mae® will again award college scholarships to high school juniors and seniors through its annual Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. This year, the company will award a $25,000 scholarship to a student from Virginia. High school counselors and community leaders can nominate students now through Sept. 26.
Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program recognizes students who have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom, but whose financial circumstances or other obstacles in life may not allow them to pursue a college education. Since 2016, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program.
“Too often — for students who excel in and out of the classroom, but who lack financial resources — going to college can be a far-off dream,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Just as the name implies, the Bridging the Dream Scholarship will help to bring that dream of higher education to reality for a deserving student in Virginia.”
Last year’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program recipients, nominated by school counselors or leaders of their local community were: Joe Bell of Gladstone, Missouri; Simone Dobosh of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; Essence Duplechain of Houston, Texas; Jenna Frezza of Hammond, Indiana; Thanh Le of West Valley City, Utah; Ardavia Lee of New Castle, Delaware; and Doug Sullivan of Saraland, Alabama.
