Eco-Shopping is Trending

According to the 2019 Resale Report published by thredUP, millennials (age 25 to 37) buy secondhand more than any other generation, with baby boomers (age 56 to 65-plus) ranking a close second. In addition, both millennial and generation Z (age 18 to 37) consumers are adopting secondhand apparel 2.5 times faster than other age groups. Green shoppers are willing to pay more for products and services that come from companies committed to positive environmental impact. Many wish to recycle and spend more when their purchasing power is directed toward helping the environment.

Why Auctions Matter to the Environment

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), only 15.3 percent of textiles – such as clothing, furniture, carpets, footwear and other nondurable goods – are recycled. By looking at a product's entire life cycle, new opportunities to reduce environmental impacts, conserve resources and reduce costs can be discovered. What one person discards can be highly valued or prized by someone else. Abell helps recycle and keep in circulation an abundance of items that might otherwise go to a landfill. Shopping at auction creates a “recommerce” platform that is ideal for green living.
