Sidley Adds Energy Team in New York and D.C. to Expand M&A, Project Finance and Development Capabilities

NEW YORK & WASHINGTON--()--Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to welcome Tara Higgins and Noreen Phelan as partners, and Chris Hutchison as a senior associate, to its global Energy and Infrastructure practice. Ms. Higgins is based in Sidley’s New York office and Ms. Phelan and Mr. Hutchison are based in Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office. They join from Orrick, where Ms. Higgins was co-head of the global Power practice and Ms. Phelan was a partner in the Energy and Infrastructure practice. The team will expand the firm’s global energy platform, comprised of more than 140 energy professionals in more than 15 offices worldwide.

Ms. Higgins is consistently recognized both nationally and globally as a leading energy lawyer. Her diverse range of experience focuses on the development, financing, acquisition, disposition and restructuring of energy projects, both in the U.S. and multiple foreign jurisdictions. She represents clients on matters related to M&A, project financings, corporate, high-yield and bond financings, restructurings and bankruptcy-related transactions, and other lending transactions, project development, joint development arrangements and other investor arrangements. Her clients include private equity and strategic investors, lenders, developers and governmental entities. She possesses extensive knowledge and background on projects related to wind, hydroelectric, solar, biomass and other alternative energy; conventional power; midstream gas gathering and processing; interstate gas pipelines and gas storage facilities; water and waste treatment plants; and industrial plants and transportation.

Ms. Phelan has deep experience representing energy clients in complex equity and debt financings, project acquisitions and divestitures, mergers, joint ventures and other investment arrangements. She counsels private equity and strategic investors, lenders, governmental entities and major developers in connection with wind, solar, hydroelectric, biomass and other alternative energy projects, and conventional power generation facilities in all stages of their life cycle.
