Champlain College Online Appoints Gabriel Clevenger as Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management

BURLINGTON, Vt.--()--Champlain College Online, a leader in career-focused adult higher education, today announced the appointment of Gabriel Clevenger as assistant vice president of enrollment management.

In his new role, Clevenger will lead the College’s efforts to sustain enrollment growth with a focus on expanding its existing national workforce development partnership program known as truED. Specifically, he will oversee the strategic direction and growth of Champlain’s truED partnerships to ensure the program continues to evolve in tandem with the changing needs of the U.S. workforce.

Clevenger has spent most of the last 20 years managing and implementing strategic alliances and client relationships in the higher education sector. He most recently served as the senior director of client relations at the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) where he worked with corporations to identify appropriate career-pathing solutions to drive employee engagement and retention. Prior to that, he served as the national director of strategic alliances at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, where he led and helped expand a team focused on corporate, association and government partnerships. Clevenger has also served as adjunct faculty at Excelsior and has expertise in talent management, leadership and development, and workforce development.

He earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The Sage Colleges in Albany, New York. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education (Ed.D.) with a focus on competency-based learning and higher education administration from Northeastern University.

“Gabe’s extensive experience in workforce development and his personal understanding of the needs of adult learners make him a perfect fit for Champlain College Online,” said Johnna Herrick-Phelps, assistant provost at Champlain College Online. “We look forward to leveraging his knowledge to continue to build our truED Alliance program and establishing new strategic alliances to expand opportunities to more adult students while providing talent management solutions to organizations.”

Through its truED Alliance Program, Champlain works closely with more than 70 public sector, nonprofit and private sector organizations to close skills gaps and address other workforce challenges faced by today’s businesses. Champlain students acquire new, career-focused skills and knowledge through accelerated online classes, highly relevant and applicable coursework, immersive labs and engaging discussions in in-demand subject areas such as business, technology and healthcare administration. These truED partnerships are designed to help employers find creative, agile ways to grow their workforces and are tailored to the needs of individual organizations. Past and current partnerships have included custom badge programs in specific, mission-critical skillsets—such as cybersecurity—which allow employees to get up to speed more quickly.

“Knowing that Champlain College Online has innovative practices engrained in its roots, and that they are still such a palpable aspect of the College now, is one of the main reasons I came on board,” said Clevenger. “I look forward to working at an institution that is both attuned to the needs of adult students and constantly evolving to continually provide exceptional, career-relevant microcredentials and degree programs.”
