Vagisil® Donates $2 Million Worth of Preventeza Emergency Contraception to Support Education and Access to Reproductive Options

Vagisil’s donation will support family planning centers nationwide to advance its mission to reduce the shame that exists around sexual health

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--()--Combe Inc., the makers of Vagisil®, today announced it is donating $2 million worth of Preventeza (levonorgestrel tablet, 1.5 mg) emergency contraception (EC) product to support women’s rights to education and access to EC. Starting with family planning centers, Vagisil’s donations will provide Preventeza to women nationwide.

“My passion and mission in life is to make education and access to intimate health approachable and accessible to every woman by changing the conversation from one of shame, stress and embarrassment, to one of empowerment, preparedness and education,” said Keech Combe Shetty, CEO of Vagisil. “Our donations are demonstrative of our commitment to ensuring women are properly educated about EC and have access to EC and other important intimate health products.”

Vagisil’s mission is to increase awareness of the fact that nearly 1 in 2 women may need EC in their lifetime due to the risk of unintended pregnancies, yet less than 20 percent of women have actually used it. Due to this gap in knowledge, Vagisil has committed to donating EC to provide options to women who may be unable to afford or access EC to prevent an unintended pregnancy. People can spread the message to raise awareness on social media by using #WeAre1in2.

“I am so delighted to see Vagisil’s donation of this emergency contraception for women who truly need it to galvanize a timely movement that will not only increase access to EC but will be critical in separating facts from common misconception about EC,” said Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, Clinical Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Yale University School of Medicine. “It is especially meaningful to me, as morning after contraception was developed at Yale, that Vagisil has taken on this mission to reduce the shame around emergency contraception.”

Preventeza is brought to you by the makers of Vagisil, a trusted women’s health brand that encourages women to talk about health topics they are uncomfortable discussing and thereby reduce the shame that still exists around vaginal and sexual health. In addition, family planning centers are encouraged to contact Vagisil and products may be donated while supplies last. For more information, please visit Vagisil.com or email combe@rxmedyn.com.

How Preventeza Works

Preventeza can be taken within 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex has occurred, yet is most effective the sooner it is taken. Preventeza works mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. Preventeza will not harm an existing pregnancy. Preventeza does not protect women from HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

When used as directed, Preventeza can significantly decrease the chance of a woman becoming pregnant after unprotected sex. Approximately seven out of every eight women who would have become pregnant will not after taking Preventeza.
