Books-A-Million to Welcome Master Sportscaster Verne Lundquist, October 14

Author event to feature “Play By Play” book signing and meet and greet!

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--()--After being the voice in many homes during SEC football games over the last five decades, Verne Lundquist is headed to Birmingham during his national tour to discuss his autobiography that tells the story of his career as a sports broadcaster. Books-A-Million invites guests for an event featuring Lundquist’s highly anticipated book “Play By Play.” This event will take place on Sunday, October 14 at 2 p.m. at Brookwood Village, located at 757 Brookwood Village in Birmingham, Alabama.

Set for release on Tuesday, October 16, Lundquist shines the spotlight on his own life in “Play By Play.” As a sports broadcaster of over 50 years, he is one of America’s most beloved voices that has covered some of the most iconic moments in sports history, from Jack Nicklaus's final victory at the 1986 Masters to Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 Olympics to the Auburn-Alabama shocker of 2013. In his first memoir, he starts at the beginning of his broadcasting career recalling his time as a producer and radio show host in Dallas when President John F. Kennedy was shot. One of the defining voices of Saturday football for the SEC, Lundquist offers an in-depth look at the fans, the schools and the game, recounting never-before-told stories about some of college football's biggest personalities.

“People always liked to form their own opinions on me,” says Lundquist. “What’s a better way to give them the inside scoop than writing a book!”

After many years of commentating college football, Lundquist retired after the 2017 season. Aside from his sports casting career, he was featured in major motion pictures such as Happy Gilmore and The Last Boy Scout.

This event is FREE to attend. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase a copy “Play By Play” during Lundquist’s visit.
