SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Pullman San Francisco Bay hotel has told employees that the hotel will be marketed for sale in coming days, according to UNITE HERE Local 2. For more than a year, the hotel has been subject to a labor dispute with Local 2, the San Francisco affiliate of UNITE HERE, a labor union representing 270,000 workers across North America. There is no end in sight to the conflict. Real estate investment manager CBRE Global Investors owns the hotel on behalf of a number of limited partners, and it is managed by HEI Hotels & Resorts.

In May 2018, CBRE executed an agreement with UNITE HERE Local 2 ending a year-long labor dispute. The Pullman’s operator HEI refused to agree to the agreement, so picketing and other labor actions have resumed at the hotel.
In July 2018, nine workers filed complaints against the hotel with the California Labor Commissioner alleging unpaid wages, unpaid sick leave, unpaid rest breaks, invalid checks, and unlawful deductions. The hotel has settled the cases brought by two restaurant employees for an average value eight times greater than what it would have cost to pay the employees correctly at the outset. Seven housekeepers have claims pending with the CA Labor Commissioner for alleged rest period violations and wage theft.
Throughout the dispute, educators, community leaders, and elected officials have expressed strong support for the Pullman San Francisco Bay workers. Over 50 community leaders and politicians have committed to support workers’ demand for a fair process, and many of these officials have stood with Pullman workers on picket lines outside the hotel.
Prospective buyers should be aware that Pullman workers plan to continue escalating actions at the hotel and communicating with customers about the ongoing labor dispute.
