Pacific Life Foundation Grants Scholarships to Students Who Have Lost Parents Without Life Insurance

Four $15,000 Scholarships Were Awarded as Part of Pacific Life’s 150th Anniversary Celebration

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--()--As part of Pacific Life’s 150th anniversary celebration and in honor of Life Insurance Awareness month, the Pacific Life Foundation has sponsored four $15,000 scholarships through Life Happens (www.LifeHappens.org) and its annual Life Lessons Scholarship Program to aid the financial burden for students who have lost a parent without life insurance. Scholarships were awarded to students in communities where Pacific Life employees live and work, including Tama Henderson-Semo and Guadalupe Ramos from California, Dillon Smith from Nebraska, and Shayna Underwood from Virginia.

The loss of a parent and related financial stress is difficult for anyone, but for many young people, it comes at the expense of other dreams, like an education,” said Tennyson Oyler, president of the Pacific Life Foundation. “A college education is a major financial commitment, one that is infinitely more challenging to shoulder for a student when a parent dies leaving little or no life insurance, which is unfortunately a reality in today’s world. We hope that our scholarships help alleviate some of the burden these students have taken on and reinforce how important life insurance is as a financial safety net that parents can leave their children.”

The scholarship evaluation process began in early spring, with nearly 100 Pacific Life employees who volunteered to review and score applications. Entrants were college students or college-bound high school students and were asked to submit essays or videos about how the death of a parent impacted their lives.
