StorONE Breaks Speed Record of 1.7 Million IOPS Using Only 24 SSD Commodity Drives

In benchmark testing with virtual environments, StorONE S1 storage achieved 500,000 IOPS in a VMware ESXi Server with only two nodes

NEW YORK--()--StorONE today announced results of benchmark testing featuring the StorONE S1 software-based enterprise storage solution running on a commodity 2U24 Flash Storage Platform JBOD with 24 commodity drives. The testing achieved record-setting performance by attaining more speed per drive than entire AFA arrays from competing solutions.

StorONE benchmarked the capabilities of S1 software to demonstrate high performance using only two 2U off-the-shelf servers running in an HA configuration with standard components and 24 commodity drives. The results were exceptional: 1.7M IOPS for random reads, 15 GB/s sequential reads, 7.5 GB/s sequential writes and 10 GB/s for a mixed workload of 80/20 reads/writes. By comparison, all-flash array competitors in the market required at least 4 times the amount of hardware and expense to deliver similar results.

The benchmark utilized four initiators: two 4x16Gb Fibre Channel and two 1X40GB iSCSI. The impressive results were attained with all enterprise storage features turned on, and showed ultra-high performance and ultra-low latency. The testing and subsequent results validate that StorONE TRU™ Storage technology efficiency provides customers with the best price/performance ratio among enterprise storage solutions available today.

The software also supports virtual environments. In another benchmark test, the S1 software running in a VMware ESXi Server with only two nodes, achieved 500,000 IOPS with no altering of the AFA hardware. This test demonstrated how to turbocharge storage performance in a virtual environment simply by adding the StorONE software to commodity hardware. The solution is ideal for accelerating enterprise workloads such as database, virtualization and scale-out configurations all in a single simple to use solution. The S1 virtual solution supports both internal VMs and External iSCSI and Fibre Channel initiators, either ESXis or physical machines.

StorONE’s S1 TRU Storage efficiency technology can – for the first time – extract the full performance of drives and deliver them directly to the applications. No other enterprise storage solution can do this. With complete data protection running in all of its implementations by default, StorONE gives users the best possible performance and density from their investment. StorONE provides revolutionary AFA SSD and NVMe solutions, cost-effective high capacity with integrated backup solutions, and a breakthrough virtual appliance, all in one solution.

“StorONE is the only enterprise storage vendor able to extract the full spec out of the drives and deliver them to the applications achieving 70,000 IOPS per drive with very low latency,” said Gal Naor, CEO StorONE. “I’m very proud with our results as we are 5-10 times more efficient compared to anyone else in the market. With StorONE users finally get all the advantages of using less compute, buying less hardware, and spending much less on integration and management. We are able to give customers complete enterprise data protection features in a comprehensive software solution while still achieving record speeds.”
