Maine’s Online Registration Renewal Service Reaches a New Milestone

The town of Garland becomes the 220th town to offer the online Boat Registration Renewal

GARLAND, Maine--()--The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (DIF&W) announced that the online boat registration renewal service (www.maine.gov/online/boat), Maine’s online renewal service for boat registrations, has reached a new milestone adding its 220th municipal location. The town of Garland went live with the service on August 10.

The boat registration renewal service allows residents or non-residents who moor their boat in Maine to renew their boat registration online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Payment for registration renewal fees and municipal excise tax fees is made in one seamless, secure transaction using a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit or debit card. While municipal participation is optional, the service is currently offered by cities and towns across Maine.

DIF&W oversees boat registrations for the state of Maine. Prior to the online service, boat owners were required to visit the department or their municipal office to complete this transaction. This made renewing a boat an inconvenience to boat owners as well as a strain on municipal and department staff resources. Available since 2009, 91,953 boat registrations have been renewed online.

The Boat Registration renewal service may be accessed through www.maine.gov/online/boat. Municipal officials who would like more information about participating are encouraged to contact InforME directly at info@informe.org.

The boat registration renewal was developed at no cost to tax payers and was created in partnership with the state’s digital government services provider, InforME. The service enhances the popular suite of online services available through www.Maine.gov.
