Rhodes Group Selects InterSystems HealthShare to Advance Laboratory Contribution to Patient Care

Partnership to improve patient care and outcomes through laboratory insights

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--()--InterSystems, a global leader in health information technology, today announced that Rhodes Group, a subsidiary of TriCore Reference Laboratories, has selected InterSystems HealthShare® to create and manage unified views of patient data to support their Clinical Lab 2.0 efforts. With the help of the HealthShare toolset, TriCore is able to leverage the powerful Rhodes informatics engine to transform the role of clinical laboratories in healthcare.

TriCore Reference Laboratories purchased Rhodes Group in 2015, bringing together software, clinical, financial, and operational expertise to help laboratories succeed in today’s complex healthcare environment. The company’s selection and implementation of HealthShare extends the work TriCore is doing to improve diagnosis and treatment quality and efficiency while reducing the rising cost of care.

Laboratory data comprise at least 60 percent of healthcare data by volume and drive some of the most significant patient care decisions, including diagnosis and treatment. Because of this, the role of the laboratorian is vital to value-based care across the broader healthcare ecosystem. Through HealthShare’s Information Exchange solution, Rhodes is able to create a longitudinal, standardized data repository across TriCore’s multi-system laboratories as the foundation for their proactive informatics solutions. TriCore’s health analytics solutions allow for identification and targeting of specific patient conditions which support provider and payer efforts to improve the care of patients and lower related care costs. With InterSystems HealthShare, labs are better positioned to provide meaningful, actionable information across the care continuum.

“HealthShare is critical for helping our lab clients to manage cost, increase their market share, and participate in the new value based informatics marketplace,” said Sam Merkouriou, president Rhodes Group. “One way we’re able to achieve this is through the establishment of additional revenue streams that aren’t reliant on the clinical lab fee schedules. We’re allowing these labs to be more profitable by developing a value-based revenue stream that stems from real-time informatics available through the integration of the Rhodes C21 Platform with HealthShare. HealthShare’s interoperability engine allows Rhodes Informatics tools to quickly adapt new data feeds to a standardized dataflow process.”

Driving actionable clinical analysis effectively requires access to data beyond claims. For laboratories to successfully drive-value based care, they must have access to cost-effective, real-time technology that can inform not only acute care issues, but costly chronic care challenges where the bulk of healthcare expenditures are incurred. Through the use of Rhodes C21 technology, TriCore is able to leverage unified clinical and claims data and provide cost effective solutions for labs undertaking the Lab 2.0 value based journey.

“As laboratories shift from traditional pay-per-service to value-based care, they must adapt. Our work with Rhodes Group will enable better clinical decision-making within the traditional lab workflow while supporting the creation of new high-value services that advance patient care,” said Don Woodlock, vice president of HealthShare at InterSystems. “HealthShare makes it possible to share more comprehensive laboratory data and information with care providers and payers so they can better serve patients’ needs.”

TriCore Reference Laboratories and Rhodes Group will be presenting at AACC July 29 - August 2, 2018 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
